Weekend Drama Impressively Regarded for Its ‘Sensational Storyline and Refined Beauty’

The weekend drama <Ok Jung Hwa (Flower of Prison)> started off with sensational storyline and splendid picturesque and actions from its first premiere.

           The 55th anniversary of MBC’s special program <Ok Jung Hwa (Flower of Prison)> (directed by Lee Byung-hoon / written by Choi Wan-gyu / produced by Kim Jong Hak Production) that was first aired on April 30th, 10:00p.m (KST) unravels the dramatic birth and the character development of a prodigy named Ok-nyeo that was born in the prison (played by Jeong Da-bin) captured many audience’s attention.

           In the story, Ok-nyeo’s mother was chased after by an unidentified assailant and was stabbed during the chase. In spite of being incapacitated, Ok-nyeo’s mother was helped by a man and gave birth to Ok-nyeo in the prison cell.

           The story then unfolds further as Ok-nyeo grew up and earned her wisdom and knowledge from the prisoners, eventually developed as a prominent young girl. The character, Ok-nyeo, portrayed by Jeong Da-bin, dazzled the audience with her youth appearance and concurrently showed a mature acting skills as a bright prodigy character in the drama.

           Ok-nyeo’s gorgeous image and the contrast of the villains became the ‘scene stealer’ part in this drama. Meanwhile, the brother of the Queen consort Munjeong (starring Kim Mi-suk), Yoon Won-hyung (starring Jung Jun-ho) successfully delivered a perfect portrayal of his role as he relentlessly annihilated his underman due to his failure in accomplishing his duty. Actress Park Ju-mi also left a strong impression as Chung Nan-jung as she showed an ambitious character, building up the tension together with Kim Mi-suk as the story expands further.

           Despite its authentic storyline and the casts’ brilliant acting skills, the drama <Ok Jung Hwa (Flower of Prison)> also pleasurably presents impressive beauty of its cinematography. The dynamic camera works that was captured the Jeonokseo (central prison)’s circular structure in the first line of the drama captivated the viewers’ attention. Also, the scene where the unidentified man chased after Ok-nyeo’s mother in the bamboo woods and sea shore, reminds us as the viewers about the live action films we watched.

           The anticipation for the next episode is lifted even more as Yoon Won-hyung met Lee Ji-ham in the prison, where he asked about how his fate will be before the ending of the first episode of <Ok Jung Hwa (Flower of Prison)>. However, it had raged Won-hyung when Lee Ji-ham introduced to him that Ok-nyeo was the one with great talent, but not himself.

           The continuation of the second episode is teased with raising curiosity from the audience about Ok-nyeo being Won-hyung’s daughter or not. Then, the protagonist who did not appear on the first episode, Yoon Tae-won (played by Go Soo) who was mysteriously introduced during the scene where he faced Ok-nyeo in the next episode trailer became the central point in the second episode.

           For the past 16 years of working to be historical drama adventure box office hit such as <Heo Jun, the Original Story> (1999) and <The Merchant> (2001), director Lee Byung-hoon and writer Choi Wan-gyu aims that <Ok Jung Hwa (Flower of Prison)> also follows the same trend in gaining mutual anticipation. The second episode of the drama will be broadcast tonight at 10p.m (KST) on May 1st
